90 IVIES BOUND FOR 2020 SUMMER OLYMPICS AND PARALYMPICS IN TOKYO

PRINCETON, N.J -- The Ivy League will continue to build upon its storied success in the Olympic Games as 90 past, present and future Ivies will compete in the 2020 Olympic in Tokyo, Japan. The Games will commence one year and one day after it was previously scheduled- beginning on July 23 and lasting through August 8, 2021.

The Ivy League contingent includes 82 Olympians, three Paralympians and five coaches, representing all eight of the Ivy League intuitions—Brown (6), Columbia (10), Cornell (5), Dartmouth (5), Harvard (15), Penn (8), Princeton (23) and Yale (18) and 30-of-205 participating countries— United States (34), American Samoa (1), Australia (5), Bermuda (1), Canada (3), Chile (1), China (1), Chinese Taipei (1), Denmark (1), Egypt (1), Estonia (1), Germany (2), Ghana (1), Great Britain (6), Greece (1), Guam (1), Israel (4), Jamaica (1), Jordan (1), New Zealand (3), Nigeria (1), Norway (1), Palestine (1), Puerto Rico (1), Saudi Arabia (1), South Korea (1), Switzerland (2), Taiwan (1), Thailand (1), Turkey (1) and Uganda (1).

The Ivy League has a storied tradition of Olympic influence, consistently ranking amount the top NCAA conference in Olympic participation. The League has accumulated 475 medals all-time, including six during Rio 2016 and nine during PyeongChang 2018.

The 2020 Ivy League footprint on Team USA is as follows:

• 34 Ivies will compete on Team USA and is one of three conference in the country to have all of its schools represented on the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team (Ivy League, Big 12 and SEC).

• 10 Ivies will be returning Olympians, including two medalists.

• Harvard is the only non-power Five school in the top-15 list of contributors to Team USA with nine U.S. Olympians.

• All eight institutions will have representation on the U.S. Olympic Rowing Team, composing nearly 45% of Team USA's roster. The only other conference with this milestone is the SEC in athletics.

• One-third of Team USA Fencing competed at Columbia, Harvard or Princeton.

Three-hundred thirty-nine medals will be distributed in 33 disciplines during Tokyo, with Ivies competing in 12 of 33 sports: athletics, baseball/softball, basketball, equestrian, fencing, rowing, rugby, sailing, swimming, tennis, triathlon and wrestling.
