TOKYO -- Two Ivies added some hardware on Day 16 of the Summer Olympics.
Former Harvard track standout Gabby Thomas wrapped up her impressive Olympic debut. The Florence, Mass., native anchored the 4x100m relay for the United States, which took silver in 41.45 seconds. Thomas, who also took bronze in the 200m, is the only Ivy League athlete to earn multiple medals in this summer’s games.
Princeton’s Ashleigh Johnson led the United States women’s water polo team to a gold medal with a dominant performance in goal. The former Tiger did not allow a goal in the second half until the final two minutes of play, as the United States topped Spain 14-5 to earn its third consecutive gold medal in the event.
The last three Ivies to compete have earned medals. Along with Johnson and Thomas, former Cornell wrestler Kyle Dake claimed bronze in the men’s freestyle 74 kg.
Johnson was the final Ivy athlete to compete in the Summer Games. In total, 10 Ivies brought home 11 medals.
